Project Statement: Crossings and Unions

This body of work explores transcendentalist philosophy in relation to my personal experiences. There is an inherent spirituality within nature, and an undeniable connection that man shares with it. It is not man that is divine, but nature as a whole. It is this divinity, spirituality, and pure energy that I have created a visual language, through 4x5 black and white landscapes and digital manipulation, to give a physical manifestation. The resulting images depict surreal, dream-like environments that reflect these themes and question the audience’s perception of reality, encouraging further reflection on how the audience views the world, and, more specifically, the land.
